THE best way you can support us initially is by sending us an e-mail - firstname.lastname@example.org – allowing us to add your name to a list of those who want newspaper executives to preserve both entire past copies of their newspapers and the invaluable cuttings and photograph libraries.
Then, please write to one of the chief executives of the UK's largest newspaper publishers to ask them what they are doing to preserve this part of the country's heritage.
If you want to find your nearest newspaper, go to http://www.mediauk.com/newspapers
Contact details for the UK's major regional newspaper publishers are on the links page.
You could also write to your councillors, MP, MEPs, MSPs, or Northern Ireland, Welsh and London AMs to ask them to support Presserve.
Writing to publishers
You don't need to copy and paste this text, but say something similar:
Dear (insert chief executive's name)
As you should know, local and regional newspapers are the lifeblood of the communities they cover - but their value isn't just in the present, it's in the past too.
Archives of past editions as well as any libraries of clippings and cuttings from the days before intranets and search engines are vital in preserving local history.
Please would you let me know what arrangements your company has made to preserve past copies of the titles you own and their libraries.
If you have not started to do this, you may like to know that funding may be available from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Don't forget to include your name and address or an e-mail address for a reply.
